Bartering Websites
What are Bartering Websites?
Bartering used to be commonplace, even when there was money. There were people trading all kinds of different things, from products to services. For an example, back in the day, a farmer might have traded some of his crops to a blacksmith and in return, the blacksmith would shoe his horses, or sharpen the blades on a plow. Another example would be a sheepherder, trading his wool to a tailor in return for clothes. The tailor needed wool or other materials to make cloth and clothes, and the herder needed clothes for him and his family. Instead of selling the wool, and then having to buy clothes, this worked out much better, and both parties were happy.
Businesses did the same thing. One good example would be a law firm who needed advertising, or business cards would trade legal services with a printer. If there were some kinds of legal issues on the side of the printing business, the law firm would be there to help. These practices were commonplace for centuries before money really took over. Poorer people, who didn’t have a lot of money to spend, would often use the barter system to get the services and products they need.
You may think that the barter system is dead, but you would be quite wrong. Even in today’s modern age, bartering is quite prominent. These days, with the power of the internet, you can exchange goods and services for equal value, not just with someone in your community, but across the world. Just like in the old days, people are finding that money is often tight, and the barter system is a much more effective way to get the things you need.
There are many different websites available for those people who want to do some bartering. If you have a service like lawn mowing for an example, or have some old item laying around the house collecting dust, there are numerous sites that you can go to trade for something that you can use, without spending actual money on anything but shipping.
One these sites is Craigslist. They have an online message board where people post items and services they wish to barter, and what they want in exchange. The bartering that goes on in these message boards has doubled in recent months, and with the economy the way it is, it is no big wonder.
Swaptree is another bartering website, and they specialize in luxury items like DVDs, video games, books, and other items. These products are very lucrative for many reasons. Most people only read a book one time, and then it sits on a shelf collecting dust. Video games, while quite popular among almost all age groups, are also played until they are completed, and then they sit around unused. With the help of Swaptree, all these items can be exchanged for other like items. You simply post your unwanted items, and the site finds items that you can exchange them for. You just pick the things that you want, and pay shipping. The site is completely free to use.
Even businesses can barter. There are websites like NATE Corporate Barter allows companies to trade unsold or overstocked inventory for products and services they happen to need. This way, everyone is happy, and no one gets stuck with products they can’t sell, or have too much of.
